Choose how you’ll connect

You can connect Windows to your organization in one of two ways:

Join Microsoft Entra ID

Choose this option if your organization uses Office 365 or other business services from Microsoft.

Join a local Active Directory domain

You'll set up a local account now and then join the domain in Settings.

Choose this option if your organization uses Office 365 or other business services from Microsoft. Your organization might collect info about you, install or remove apps, change settings or disable features, delete content, or reset your device. Talk to your support staff to learn more.

If you plan to join your PC to a domain, we’ll help you set up a local account now. When setup is finished, join the domain as you have in the past.

Connect your device to school or work

We need to upgrade Windows on your device so we can connect it to your school or work.

When you continue, we will get a license for Windows 10 Pro from your organization and apply it to your device. You’ll need to restart your device during this process, so please close all of your applications. The entire process should only take a few minutes.

Connect your local account to your work or school account

Right now, you’re signed in to Windows with a local account, and your files and data are saved to the profile for your local account. If you would like your local profile available when you sign in with a work or school account, enter your password for Windows. The next time you sign in, use your work or school account.

If you don’t have a Windows password, just leave the box blank and continue.

You can skip this step. When you sign in with your work or school account, the data for your local account won’t be available to you.
